His research group has developing nano-scale synthesis strategies to bypass macro-scale limitations of energy and structural materials with applications in clean tech, electric vehicles, wearable electronics, and more. It develops of novel processing techniques to substantially improve in the conductivity of solid electrolytes to enable and improve high energy density battery technologies. Its research projects are focused on gaining fundamental understanding of the impacts of chemistry, microstructure and composition on physical properties, electrochemical stability, metal ion diffusion and sensitivity to environment in several classes of solid state electrolytes. In the laboratory of Prof. Yushin, a highly innovative approach of nanomaterial synthesis based on the strain energy minimization at the boundary of the phase transformation front was discovered. Such an approach allowed developing cheap and environmentally friendly synthesis of flexible alumina nanowires and nanowire-based separator membranes for safer Li-ion batteries. However, the conventional construction of vulnerability indicators is partial and relies on economic and social data gathered through household surveys. Field surveys are time and resource-intensive and are often scarce, especially in Southern countries. This lack of spatial and temporal information hampers the accurate modeling and understanding of vulnerabilities related to the population, housing, and infrastructure in the face of climate risk.<br> <br> In this context, the DLISCES project seeks to leverage deep learning and machine learning techniques to analyze readily available satellite images (e.g., Copernicus data) in conjunction with socio-economic data (e.g., LSMS data) and/or environmental data. The goal is to estimate human and material vulnerability indicators across an entire territory. Advanced artificial intelligence methods can significantly contribute to sustainability science and natural risk management by effectively combining unstructured, heterogeneous, and massive data to infer complex models capable of efficiently estimating various types of spatial indicators. In our context, the objective is to jointly exploit satellite images, georeferenced socio-economic data, and various spatialized information to estimate different variables across the entire considered region and ultimately produce comprehensive and accurate maps of vulnerability indicators.<br> <br> <strong>Application procedure</strong><br> <br> The position is for 2 years starting September 2024 or earlier. It is a mature, industry-relevant, technique for depositing functional thin films, even on large substrates such as architectural glasses. During MS, plasma ions are accelerated towards the cathode surface by applying an electrical potential. The ion bombardment provokes the sputtering, i.e., the ejection of surface atoms. Sputtered atoms are then transported through the plasma and condense on neighboring surfaces and form a film whose thickness can be controlled with nanometer precision.</span></p> <p><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">In this presentation, we will explain what are the available ¡°knobs¡± for controlling the plasma characteristics and the physico-chemical properties of the deposited thin films.</span></p> <p><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">MS offers the possibility to design thin film with chemical compositions ranging from pure metals to alloys, as well as oxides, nitrides or carbide compounds. The funding also includes a €5,000 research allowance. The gross annual salary is €31,500-34,000 depending on experience and includes a benefits package (health insurance plus retirement and unemployment benefits).<br> <br> <strong>The project.</strong>?The ¡°INEG_RISQUE¡± project aims to carry out an in-depth analysis of the role of economic inequalities, at both national and local levels, in risk perception, confidence in risk management actors, and the level of preparedness and resilience of populations in the face of natural disasters. Drawing on the expertise of two research laboratories in economics (CERDI) and psychology (LAPSCO), the first part of the project involves an in-depth exploration of major international databases to identify factors of interest. This phase¡¯s novelty lies in using a variety of income distribution indicators. Beyond the commonly used Gini coefficient and other known inequality indicators, the study will also consider polarization, which reflects the concentration of income at the extremes of the economic spectrum accompanied by a shrinking middle class (Wolfson, 1994, Esteban & Ray, 1994; Permanyer, 2018), with the help of bipolarization indices (e.g. Bresson, Kozny, & Yalonetzky, 2023). Once identified and acquired, the databases will be consolidated as far as possible into a single, unified database. <strong>Task 2</strong> will involve conducting analyses on the database created in order to assess the relationships?between the level of economic inequality in a given country or locality and various outcomes linked to risk perception, confidence in the information provided by decision-makers or risk management bodies, and the level of preparedness and resilience in the face of natural disasters. The postdoc will be expected to publish the research findings in international generalist peer-reviewed journals in economics or psychological and behavioral sciences, as well as interdisciplinary journals of disaster science. The postdoc is also expected to present the results at major conferences. The results will also be disseminated to researchers from both laboratories involved and to the International Research Centre of Disaster Science and Sustainable Development (UCA).<br> <br> <strong>The ideal candidate.</strong> The ideal candidate holds a PhD in economics with a strong background in data analysis, excellent written and spoken communication skills (in English), a strong interest in disaster events. The ideal candidate is also expected to be very well-trained in R and Stata and to be familiar with distributional issues. Finally, the ideal candidate is also enthusiastic about interdisciplinary collaborations within the large spectrum of Disaster Science.<br> <br> <strong>Our lab.</strong> The <strong>CERDI is a research center on international development</strong> established in 1976. At that time, it was the first joint unit between the <a class="lien_externe" href="https://www.cnrs.fr/en">CNRS </a>(National Center for Scientific Research) and a French university dedicated to development economics. The CERDI gathers around 35 scholars from the CNRS, the <a class="lien_externe" href="https://en.ird.fr/">IRD</a> (French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development), and faculty from the <a class="lien_externe" href="https://en.uca.fr/">Universit¨¦ Clermont Auvergne</a>. Our economists are working on the macroeconomic and microeconomic aspects of economic development. The publications and expertise of the members of the CERDI cover all the aspects of economic development: the engines of growth along with the social, economic, and environmental consequences of development. Soil organic nitrogen is key to this goal. It is a massive pool of nitrogen, and a sink for inorganic fertilizer inputs that cycle through microbial biomass. But, the question remains, how do we both accumulate soil carbon and simultaneously mobilize soil organic matter-derived nitrogen to reduce inorganic fertilizer inputs? Here I will examine this problem, using data from my own and others research programs and integrating these data into conceptual models. </span></p> <p style="margin-bottom:0cm">Specifically, I will:<br> 1.
